Crashes on north Georgia mountain roads
Switchbacks, blind curves and long waits for help. Mountain crashes need fast, careful evidence work.

How mountain crashes happen
| Cause | Who may be responsible |
|---|---|
| A car or truck crosses the center line in a curve | That driver; drivers must keep to the right half of the road |
| Gravel, sand or spilled load in a curve | Possibly a truck that dropped it, or a contractor working on the road |
| Road defects | Claims against the state or a county are possible in some cases but have short notice deadlines |
| A rider in your group | Another rider can be at fault too; their insurance may apply |
Popular roads
Riders come from across the Southeast for the north Georgia loops near Dahlonega, Suches and Blairsville, and the nearby Tail of the Dragon just over the state line.
Evidence disappears fast up here
- Photograph the curve, the lane lines and any gravel before it’s swept.
- Get the names of riders and drivers who stopped. Many are tourists who go home.
- Find out which agency responded: state patrol, sheriff or local police.
- Save any helmet cam footage right away.
