Home / Left-turn crashes
“I didn’t see him.”
The left-turn crash is the classic motorcycle case. Not seeing a rider isn’t an excuse.

The rule of the road
In Georgia, a driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic that’s close enough to be a hazard. A motorcycle is oncoming traffic.
Other common crash types
| Crash | What usually went wrong |
|---|---|
| Left turn across your path | Driver failed to yield |
| Lane change into you | Driver didn’t check mirrors or blind spot |
| Rear-end at a light | Following too closely or distracted |
| Car pulling out of a driveway | Failure to yield when entering the road |
Proving the driver should have seen you
- Sight lines and what the driver could see from their position
- Your headlight, gear and lane position
- Phone records, if distraction is suspected
- Video from nearby cameras
